COME OUT YOUR COCOON: Networking Tips for Introverts

Awesome! You are ready to level up your career, there is just one problem..Networking and

socializing is not your idea of a good time. You are concerned about where to network, how to network, and what people may think of you. I get it, I have been there. Networking has been a game changer for me, but I was not always good at it. Once I learned networking skills; I gained connections that led me to thrilling career opportunities, exciting travel assignments for work, and life long friendships. One of my mentees said they are a social butterfly stuck in a cocoon. My goal is to help you get unstuck on the introvert label and focused on highlighting your best attributes. The first thing about networking is to prepare yourself. Proper planning prevents poor performance. Follow these steps to increase your network, net worth, and confidence.

Your Why: Consider the type of groups you want to network with that will provide the career trajectory you desire. Are you looking to land a job, market your business, gain new clients? Be intentional about your purpose and have your elevator speech prepared accordingly.

Don’t get caught up in the awkward moments. Push through moments where you might stumble over your words or awkwardly snort at a joke.

Maybe that’s just me but don’t overthink it because it is not that serious. Embrace your awkwardness. That is what makes you personable, relatable, and authentic!

Take advantage of online networking Virtual networking can be done by finding events through Eventbrite or social platforms such as LinkedIn or Facebook Events. This is helpful for someone who wants to ease into social interaction.

One on one networking. Coffee meetups and other one-on one interactions are solid ways to make last impressions. This is also a good follow up after networking events.
